The concept of the high-protein, low-carb diet has been around for a while. These diets increase protein intake while dramatically decreasing the amount of carbohydrates you consume. One of the most famous diets of this type is the “Zone diet”. Dr. Barry Sears used the concepts behind this practice to engineer a diet that increases protein intake by 30% while reducing carbohydrate intake by 40%. At first, during the initial weeks of maintaining this diet, you can lose weight rapidly. However, after a few weeks the weight loss speed will decline by a large margin.
This diet is very comfortable to work with at first. Over time it becomes more difficult, however. This is due to the fact that the body is low on energy due to its lack of carbohydrate intake. This can lead to apathy, decreased work capacity, depression, and a sense that nothing has changed. You may end up gaining the weight back by simply loosing interest in the diet due to how limited your dietary choices.
